Thank you for the question. It is very common to have swelling for 6 weeks following a tummy tuck. My patients usually wear a compression garment like Spanx for 6 weeks after surgery. This often helps reduce the swelling. It is also possible that you have a seroma, or fluid collection under the skin. It would be best to have your surgeon evaluate this in case you have a seroma. You are still early on the healing process, it can take up to six months to see your final results, so please be patient. At the stage you are in, inflammation is normal.
I suggest my patients to a compression garment, 24/7 for the first 4 weeks, to get the best results.
It is important for the compression garment to be very tight, for it to help with the swelling, after surgery. Please, follow up close with your plastic surgeon.
