Excessive sharp pain with post op bra. Do I need to wear it?

I had BA under the muscle 4 days ago. My left breast hurts, a sharp and burning pain. I noticed that when I take off the bra provided by the Dr. It relief the pain and discomfort. Do I really need to use it ?

Hello,Immediately post op, you can expect swelling to increase the tightness and pressure of your surgical bra somewhat. I recommend that you share your concerns with your Plastic Surgeon so that they can advise you of any alternative options and ensure that your pain is managed well. All the best

Since every surgeon has his or her own post op protocol, I would advise you to contact your surgeon. However, in general, post op bras are to provide comfort, not pain. Best, Dr. Nazarian

Thank you for your question.  Your post-surgery garment should not be causing you such pain or discomfort.  I would speak with your surgeon's office about either changing the garment size or finding a different garment that supplies similar support in order to keep you comfortable.

If your pain is relieved when you take off the bra, then it is likely too tight at least in that one area, and the symptoms are likely caused by a garment fitting issue.  I would notify your plastic surgeon and let he or she know about the symptoms you are having and let he or she evaluate you clinically and see about whether you can leave it off or change it.  Post operative swelling can be variable and sometimes will continue for the first few days after surgery, and the bra that you are using may be tighter now than when it was originally placed. I also place my patients in surgical bra after breast augmentation.However, if you are experiencing excessive pain from the bra, perhaps the bra is not fitting you well.Please contact your plastic surgeon to be examined in-person and to change the bra.Good luck with your healing.

In my practice Wearing the post-op bra is almost always for comfort support only and may be removed as desired. But.....I said almost always. Maybe your surgeon has a reason? Best to contact her/him and ask their opinion.

If the bra is causing pain, then it sounds like a good idea that you removed it.  Maybe you need a looser bra.  Discuss this with your surgeon.

It is amazing that you have NOT called your chosen surgeon to ask this question of removal of the postop bra??? In my private practice I would want to be called if you are having this issue. And I would see you in person to decide if removal was an option. Did yo have your surgery with a "clinica"?
