What exactly do doctors look for when blood work is done before having surgery?

I know your iron level has to be at least 12. What else are you looking for? What steps need to be taken to be sure to be able to be cleared for the procedure? Supplement recommendations? I am scheduled for a BBL with Dr. Mel Ortega in March. I want to be sure that I am completely ready.

Generally speaking if you are a healthy individual routine blood work consists of CBC, electrolytes, kidney & liver function, clotting factors, blood sugar levels, HEP and HIV status. It is best to ask your specific plastic surgeon as it slightly varies.

Thank you for your question, all surgeons have different labwork that is needed  to be cleared for the surgery, besides hemoglobin we check hepatitis, HIV, cholesterol, blood sugar levels, kidney and liver functions, EKG, among others.
