If I have cystic fibrosis, can I still do breast implants?

My work doctor said I have Cystic Fibrosis . I am wondering if can I still do breast implant ? I plan to get them done in September.

There is no absolute contraindication to breast augmentation in the setting of CF. You should, however, obtain pulmonary clearance prior to surgery. This will ensure that you are healthy enough to undergo surgery.As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Thank you for the questions. It is possible for you to get implants with cystic fibrosis if you are medically cleared by your doctor and pulmonologist first. Breast augmentation requires general anesthesia so medical clearance is important especially for people with lung problems.

Assuming  you have "clearance" from your pulmonologist, you may be able to proceed. If so, careful selection of plastic surgeon, anesthesia provider,  and fully accredited surgery facility (as always) will be important.   Best wishes.

Cystic Fibrosis is not an absolute contraindication. It is a factor, and you will need to be medically cleared prior to surgery. Your surgeon and MD Anesthesiologist would need to work closely with your pulmonologist to develop an appropriate surgical plan. Consult with an experienced and expert board certified plastic surgeon to understand your options.

I would require a complete pulmonary workup and clearance. Also I would do the operation as outpatient in hospital operating room setting. Never hurts to be safe..
