Chin/neck lipo on someone overweight? (Photo)

Question

I've read in many places that they say you should be your ideal weight before lipo but I'm no where near that. I've been in the 220's for about almost 2 years now (5'5 ft), fluctuating sometimes 215-230 but I think it's water weight. I've always been overweight my whole life and I know it's not an excuse but I don't think it will be changing any time soon. Do you think it would be ok for me to under go lipo in the chin/neck area? Will a doctor say no? I've been wanting this for almost a year now

Thank you for your question about chin liposuction.  There are several different procedures that would be beneficial to you.  The surgical option would be chin liposuction.  This would use suction to remove the fat.  The second and nonsurgical option would be Kybella.   Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that physically destroys fat cells to improve the appearance of moderate to severe fat beneath the chin – also known as submental fullness or “double chin.” Once destroyed, those cells can no longer store or accumulate fat.
To be sure which treatment would be best for you, see two or more experienced, licensed and board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps.

The most important decision to be made before performing any surgical procedure is determining whether you are an ideal #candidate. #Age is not so much a factor as much as #weight, and more specifically body mass index (BMI), are for determining. For instance, studies have shown that patients with BMI > 30kg/m sq (placing them in the obese category) have a higher complication rate. Therefore, it is important for patients to be as close as possible to their normal body weight prior to surgery.It is important to understand, liposuction is NOT a method of #weight loss or an alternative to diet and exercise. It does not affect one's metabolism. It is usually recommended that patients who have recently experienced weight loss and massive weight loss (#MWL) remain consistent at their weight for at least six to twelve months prior any cosmetic surgery. Such will better ensure longer lasting results of the procedure without risking the fluctuation and stretching of the skin tissue. If you experience weight gain, pregnancies, or any other drastic body altering changes following #liposuction, it is very possible the results may be compromised.  Hence, it is usually recommended that patients who have recently experienced weight loss and massive weight loss (#MWL) remain consistent at their weight for at least six to twelve months prior any cosmetic surgery. Such will better ensure longer lasting results of the procedure without risking the fluctuation and stretching of the skin tissue.

Based on your photo you are a good candidate for chin liposuction, 
Chin liposuction can be an option, it makes you look younger and more
 attractive with a sharp jawline , and better facial proportions.It is 
important evaluate your pictures or a personal evaluation in order to 
give you the best option for your case.

surgeon for a good evaluation and to talk about your goals.

It  is very important to be at your ideal body weight before undergoing liposuction in the neck.  Liposuction is designed to remove diet resistant fat, once you are at your ideal body weight.  Consider a chin implant to help with facial balance and proportions due to the weak and recessive chin profile present.

Thanks for your post. Yes, I actually think you would be a great candidate for this procedure. I think you'd get a nice improvement in contour. Keep in mind that this is a 3-6 month process to get to the end results. I hope that helps answer your question a little.

Thank you for your great question and photos.  Chin liposculpting is a terrific procedure for improving facial appearance.  It is preferable that the patient be at optimal weight, but, other good candidates will be those moving toward their goal weight. While it is true that you should loose what weight you can before having any surgical intervention it is not necessarily the only way to approach the circumstance. In my office I do easy and very safe local anesthesia submental and facial liposuction even on overweight patients. This removes the anesthesia risk which is more problematic in overweight individuals. It also lessens bleeding and facilitates recovery. I find that doing liposuction under these circumstances will on occasion motivate an individual to begin loosing weight on his own. There is usually a very noticeable improvement in appearance even without the pre-op weight loss. A bit of touch-up liposuction can always be done later on if you should loose more weight

Hi, while I agree with that philosophy when seeking body shaping...in my mind it speaks more about not using Liposuction as a method of weight "control", especially in a teenager or young adult.   From the photos, your chin is very weak and while there is excess fat in the face and neck, I see no reason that you couldn't have chin augmentation with a silastic chin implant and some liposuction under the chin.  This would, as described below, balance and improve the appearance of your lower face.  You can then choose to loose weight or not without effecting the silastic chin implant and it's aesthetic results.  I have performed many facial shaping procedures, including Chin Augmentation with dermal fillers or silastic chin implants, for over 30 years.  When the chin is weak, this creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy, the lower face looks short, de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a "double chin".  
 Proper placement of a silastic chin implant adds forward projection to the chin thereby creating harmony and balance to the lower face.  Using the same incision, liposuction can be performed to reduce the fat and further shape the neck.  Excess skin, from below the chin, can also be removed through the same incision.  
 I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty (requires extensive tissue dissection, bone cuts and placement of metal screws and plates to secure the cut segments of bone).  I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone.  In my opinion, you are a good candidate for chin implant surgery.
