Are butt implants safe long term?

I have been performing buttock implants for nearly 15 years now and in my surgical practice, the infection rate has been minimized to <2% (much lower than and contrary to popular belief by many other surgeons not experienced in buttock implants).  Additionally, all other potential complication rates are similar to breast implants...except that buttock implants are permanent and the capsular contracture rate is less than 1/4 that for breast implants. It is very difficult to determine the exact size and shape implant you will require to best match your ideal butt image without an examination by a board certified plastic surgeon. Not just any board certified plastic surgeon, but one with many years of frequently performing breast augmentation surgery including different approaches, techniques and implant choices. This is because several measurements not to mention your breast characteristics are needed to determine the optimal implant size to obtain your goals. Without knowing these dimensions it would be difficult to make this determination. For example, the existing base width of your buttock will determine, in many cases, the maximal volume per implant profile that you can accommodate. Liposuction of your lower back and fat transfer is also helpful as an adjunct to implants. Using “want to be” photos however are useful if simply provided to the surgeon.

 I have very few complications with patients after 3 months post op for buttock implants.  Usually, if there is an issue its within the first few months of recovery. This is rare as long you follow post operative instructions and avoid heavy physical activity until full recovery.

Now talking about the infection, surgical side infection usually happens (when it happens), in the first 30 days. So now you could consider an infection related to the surgical procedure up to a year when an implant is placed or used. After one year, the occurrence of an infection isnt generally related to the surgery so other caused should be access. 

Buttock Implants in the US are safe and have a long history of safety. These are silicone polymer. not gel.
