Dear Ms. BornBetter1,Thank you for your questions.I am unaware of any scientific evidence to support supplemental protein to enhance recovery from any surgery unless you have had gastric bypass or abnormally low preoperative protein levels.Factors that may negatively affect postoperative healing:1) abnormally low preoperative protein levels2) smoking 3) diabetes (not controlled)4) steroid useI suggest you make several consultative appointments with different experienced Plastic Surgeons who are Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and who are ideally members of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (denoting by membership as having met additional criteria and a focus on Cosmetic Plastic Surgery).My best wishes, R. I do not recommend gaining weight specifically for the BBL procedure for any of my patients. As far as needing supplemental protein is concerned, I recommend it only if your protein levels may be low as in the case of someone who has lost significant weight, (80 or more pounds) within the last 6 months to year. regards,Dr Ravi Somayazula

Happy Holidays. Proteins combined with vitamin C are good for post op recovery. But absolutely to gain weight won't improve your results and is always bad for your health.Have a great 2016, and thanks for using Realself for information.
