Hi. Thank you for your question about scars on your face and how to get rid of them. My recommendation for getting rid of scars on the face is either microneedling (with or without PRP). Microneedling creates tiny micro-injuries into the skin, which helps bring attention to the area. This causes collagen synthesis and growth factors to enter the area and ultimately fill these scars. I would suggest a minimum of 3 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart. At that point, your practitioner can assess whether or not you need further sessions. There is very minimal downtime with microneedling. After microneedling, you will be red for about 1-3 days. You will have to keep your face protected from the sun. I hope this helps!
Our office has many different treatments for scars depending on the depth of atrophy or hypertrophy. Scars require a combination approach using our HI DEF protocol which uses a combination of lasers, topical scar modulation, and RF treatments to pixelate scars, improve contour, reduce hyperpigmentation, and improve the visibility of the scars so that they are no longer visible in ambient light. Everyone has a unique pattern of scarring and we employ our HIDEF technique to improve texture, color, contour, and topography. We often use a combination of treatments that begin with a careful examination to examine the micro texturing of the acne scars. Atrophic scars and indented scars can benefit from injectable fillers such as Radiesse, Sculptra, and Restylane with or without subcision to remove tethered scars and atrophic depression. Hyper-redness in scars can be improved with V beam laser, Excel V, BBL, IPL, and Venus RF to improve the redness and reduce the visibility of deep scars. Fractional Thulium laser and clear & brilliant can also reduce the inflammation and redness of the scar when combined with topical therapy. Fractional lasers such as Fraxel, erbium, and CO2 laser can be combined with radio frequency and also fractional RF to improve textual issues and microtopography. Subcision and TCA cross are also used for deep ice pick scars and narrow valley scars in order to improve the micro texture. Above all, our combination approach with our clinical nurses and board-certified plastic surgeons can improve the quality of your skin by using at home Melarase creams combined with PRP treatments in our office to improve your skin quality and tone. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an experienced team of experts in order to reduce your scarring. Finally, hyperpigmentation of scars can be improved with at-home Melarase AM, Melarase PM, and Melapads to help reduce active PIH and melanin deposition.Best, Dr. KaramanoukianRealself100 Surgeon
Hello! It appears that these are atrophic scars on the cheeks and a few hyperpigmented scars on the chin area. These could be treated with a combination of a few different treatments such as microneedling or RF microneedling, chemical peels, or laser skin rejuvenation. Some scar subcison may be needed for the deeper scars to get the best results.
Microneedling, even professionally performed microneedling, which I have been doing for well over two decades, is best reserived for the treatment of superficial, surface irregularities in skin color and texture; it is less helpful for treating fully developed scars, such as ice pick scars. TCA CROSS, which I have been using for a similar length of time, is better suited to this purpose. It is a relatively inexpensive technique, can be used for all skin types, and engenders little to no significant downtime. You would be wise to consult a board certified cosmetic dermatologist. Best of luck.
TCA peel with resurfacing (microneedling or laser) will be the best combination. Several sessions are likely to be needed. Best of luck, Dr. K
This is a great question and a perfect photo for assessment. Your skin texture can be improved drastically with a few session of Erbium Laser. In addition to laser therapy you can utilize Microneedling with RadioFrequency or without for maximizing your results. If you dont already, having a proper daily skincare routine is also a must. For the scars that are deeper and harder to treat, dermal fillers can be used with ease.
Thank you for sharing your photo and inquiry. From the photo you shared, I would strongly recommend a microneedling treatment. There is well established studies that show microneedling to be an effective approach to reduce and/or eliminate scarring/scars, improved overall texture, decrease pore size, and help reduce fine lines and superficial wrinkles. The SkinPen is a good introductory microneedling treatment that can target a skin depth up to 2.5mm. This treatment can be combined with either PRP and/or Exosomes to induce collagen production and utilize additional growth factors for enhance skin turnover and rejuvenate the skin. Microneedling with RF energy would be an even more effective approach for scar removal and improvement in overall texture and tightening. Morpheus 8 (standard tip or Resurfacing tip) is the industry standard for this type of procedure. With the addition of RF energy, there is more contracture of the skin (ie tightening) and more collagen induction. Morpheus 8 can also be paired with PRP and/or Exosomes--this combination would provide excellent outcomes. If you seek these treatments, please provide before and after photos--would love to see your results. SkinPen (Crown Aesthetics) is a single hand-held instrument. Morpheus 8 is part of a larger platform device from the InMode collection (InMode is a very reputable manufacturer of multiple aesthetic devices). Make sure to find well established providers who offer these treatments--they are not to be done with anyone who does not have adequate experience and/or understanding of the procedures themselves or does not have a good understanding of how RF energy works.Best of luck!
