How much does it cost for rhinoplasty? Does insurance help?

I was in an abusive relationship and it ended when he broke my nose. I had my nose reset. And although it is still in healing process you can visible see the bones are cricked on the right side. I seen on previous question it cost about $8000 to $12000. I have masshealth and bmc can my insurance cover any of the cost?

Rhinoplasty prices vary greatly 
because the rhinoplasty procedure itself encompasses a wide range of 
techniques that can be performed to different extents.Therefore the cost
 range is pretty wide from $6000-$12,000. My recommendation is to first 
find qualified surgeons   that are board certified by the American Board
 of Plastic Surgery or the American Board of Otolaryngology. Find one or
 two surgeons you trust, then compare prices between them. Factors that 
influence the price include:
1. Location - Will it be performed in a hospital with an overnight 
stay, an independent out- patient facility or a doctors office?
2. Type of Anesthesia -  IV sedation or General Anesthesia? Will a 
board certified anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist be used, or an 
RN?
    
 
3. Experience and training of your surgeon. The best 
trained (and longest) would be a surgeon board  certified by the 
American Board of Plastic Surgery, but also consider American Board of 
Otolaryngology trained surgeons
    
 4. Length and Complexity of 
Surgery - Tip Rhinoplasty only or complete rhinoplasty, open or closed 
technique, deviated septum repair,or breathing problems corrected, , how
 long, ?etc

Since you are the victim of an assault and have a traumatic deformity, your insurance may cover your rhinoplasty.  Your plastic surgeon needs to submit his notes and a request for authorization to your insurance to find out.  You can also call your insurance representative to find out.  Out of pocket rhinoplasty ranges in the 5-8k range.

In order to build the patient's medical insurance, medical necessity must be documented at the time of the examination and consultation.   Functional nasal surgery can be billed to the patient's medical insurance, however rhinoplasty is considered cosmetic and must be paid for by the patient's themselves. Sometimes documented nasal issues are covered by insurance. If your nose was broken more than a few weeks ago, then you will likely have to wait about 6 months before considering any work to be done. Good luck.

Thank you for your question.I am sorry to hear about your previous trauma.Without examining you, physically feeling the tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history, and discussing the pros and cons of any further treatments it is difficult to be comprehensive.From your description you appear to be a candidate for rhinoplasty. This could help improve the breathing aspects of the nose that have been compromised.Insurance often will cover the breathing aspects of the surgery.  Each company is different.I would advise you seek out an in person consultation with a facial plastic surgeon to evaluate all your options.Best of Luck, DrS

Hello.  I am so sorry for the traumatic injury you have suffered.  Insurance may be able to give you some assistance in cost.  The first step would be to call your insurance company and tell them your situation.  They will let you know if Rhinoplasty due to injury is a covered benefit.  They also will be able to provide you with names of physicians that are in your insurance network.  You also need to ask them if an authorization is required before having a procedure.  The next step is to see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, with Rhinoplasty experience, for a consultation. After your consultation, you or your doctor may need to provide your insurance company with CPT and ICD-10 codes to get authorization.  If your procedure is authorized by your insurance then your surgery can be scheduled. Good Luck
