Hypafix Dressing Retention Tape how to apply for scar therapy or Tummy Tuck?

I'm thinking of ordering some Hypafix Dressing Tape. Do you wipe down the incision with an alcohol prep wipe first or do you want to put something moisturizing over the scar before applying it I'm 6 weeks post op and going to need to be going back to my optical demanding job and need something that is going to keep tension And then what do you recommend for the belly button. I'm scared to massage silicone into it, I'm worried it's going to break up the scar and cause a keloid or something lol

Thank you for your question. Since you’ll return to work, using Hypafix tape can support your incision as you move throughout the day. This will help reduce any tension on the scar as it continues to heal. Before applying the tape, ensure the area around your incision is clean and dry. Do not use alcohol wipes directly on the incision, as this can dry out the healing tissue and cause irritation. Instead, clean the area with water and soap then dry it with a clean towel. Do not apply a moisturizer or silicone gel under the Hypafix tape, which can prevent the tape from sticking properly. If you're using silicone sheets or silicone gel as part of your scar therapy, you can alternate between Hypafix and silicone products, but avoid using both at the same time. Change the tape regularly to maintain good hygiene. However, speaking to your surgeon before using the Hypafix tape is better.

I am not sure that you will benefit from using hypafix at 6 weeks postop. I do not recommend alcohol to the incisions as it will dry them out. I recommend silicone gel or sheeting for scar management. My patients have had good results using silicone therapy after surgery.

You are late, you should have been using the tape all along. It's purpose is tension reduction and your incision has seen six weeks of tension and likely already has a visible scar, something you wouldn't have seen if you used it earlier. Not blaming you; your surgeon should know better. At six weeks, you need nothing but clean skin. Wear the tape for 7 to 10 days before changing. You can shower and exercise with it. Wear it for at least two months, and possibly longer, before switching to a silicone tape.

Step 1: Prepare the Area
•	Ensure the skin around the scar is clean and dry. Gently wash the area with mild soap and water and pat it dry. 
•	If you’re using a scar treatment product (like silicone gel sheets or pads), apply that first. 
Step 2: Cut the Hypafix Tape 
•	Measure and cut the Hypafix to cover the entire scar or treatment area. It’s usually better to cut slightly larger pieces to provide secure coverage. 
•	Round the edges of the tape to help prevent peeling or lifting.
Step 3: Peel Off the Backing 
•	Carefully peel the backing paper from the tape, exposing the adhesive tape. Do this slowly to avoid contaminating the sticky surface. 
Step 4: Apply the Hypafix 
•	Gently place the adhesive side of the Hypafix over the scar or dressing. Start from one end and press it down evenly over the scar to avoid air bubbles.
•	Smooth the tape to ensure full contact with the skin, especially around the edges. 
Step 5: Secure the Edges
•	Ensure the tape is secure but not too tight, as this could irritate the skin. Firmly press along the edges for a secure fit. 
Step 6: Replace as Needed 
•	Change the tape according to your doctor’s instructions. It usually needs to be replaced every few days, or when it starts to loosen or becomes wet.

I encourage you to speak to your surgeon for instruction before using hypafix tape on your incisions.  Silicone sheeting used consistently has proven helpful for favorable scar formation.  You can use your compression garments for extra support if needed when returning to work.

Probably applying tape after a shower at Wood soap and water should be sufficient.
I suggest you get input from your provider.
Personally, I recommend my patients use silicone sheeting for scar management.
