I'm 57 years old and finally I decided to do my butt implants, I consider myself healthy but I'm not sure if that could be an option or it would be better to go for a importance. Need advice, planning to go to Colombia to do it.

As long as you are healthy and otherwise medically cleared for surgery by a primary care physician, there is no particular age limits. I personally have done several dozen patients in their 60s and one patient as old as 71 years old.  However,  if you are going to be traveling to another country, “buyer beware”, if you do have any complications this can quickly become more serious then otherwise and more difficult to take care while stuck over in another country. Also, finding a qualified surgeon back in the states to take care of any complication will become very expensive. . Additionally make sure the surgeon you choose in Columbia is actually putting the implants within the gluteus muscles (a.k.a. “intramuscular”). If not you will surely need a revision in the future  and this will be much more expensive than your original surgery performed in Columbia.  The bottom line is, never have surgery performed in a foreign country just because it is cheaper. Although there are some very skilled and well-trained surgeons, any complications always results in a life-changing event that is a much more expensive endeavor than one had originally planned. Age by itself will not prevent you from having butt implant surgery, as it is your general health which is more important to having the surgery.  If you simply want the very lowest price, you may be happy to travel to Colombia, choosing your destination purely on the best deal at the time, or the scenery.  Should you encounter complications from the surgery once you return to NJ, realize that another trip to the DR may be required.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

thank you for sharing. Buttock Implants vary in shapes and sizes. The shape and size of your implant is determined by your plastic surgeon at the time of your consultation by taking measurements.  The size of the implant does depend on the size of the patient. If the implant used is too large for the patients body type, the implant is likely to be unsuccessful and result in explanation.  It is VERY important that you choose a board certified plastic surgeon that specializes in this procedure and is well known in the medical community for it. This will significantly increase your chances of a successful operation.
