Thank you for your question. The muscle that affects when sipping through a straw is obicularis oris. Botox can relax this muscle to prevent the lines on the upper lip from getting deep. I would recommend consulting with a Board Certified Dermatologist for best treatment plan. I hope this helps!
No, but it can cause wrinkles to your lip. Not sure why you want to increase the size of your masseurs. See out advice from board certified plastic surgeon.
Sipping a straw won't affect your masseter muscles however it may contribute to the development of lip wrinkles.
Hi and thanks for your interesting question. No evidence that sipping through even a very long straw!!! will achieve muscle bulk. Try chewing gum, as this is more likely to help increase bulk of your massetters
Hi and thanks for posting. Pursing your lips to sip through a straw uses the orbicularis oris muscle. This muscles sits around the upper and lower lip in a ring like manner. The masseter muscle is used to clench your teeth, bite down and chew. You can feel the masseter's location by placing your hand on the sides of the face and jawline and bite down. I would not worry about enlarging any of these muscles from normal daily function.
Sipping through a straw frequently could cause the little vertical lines around the lips to be more noticeable (due to frequent contraction and strengthening of the orbicularis oris muscles)...but that would NOT cause your masseter muscles to strengthen or enlarge. The masseter muscles are used for chewing and grinding food between your teeth. Two ways to reduce the lines around the lips include botulinum toxin injections (Xeomin, Botox, and Dysport), and lip fillers (Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane, Belotero, or permanent fillers).I hope that helps! Feel free to let me know if you need a better explanation!Debbie Kessler Hudak, MD
The quick answer to your question is "No". The lines that result from sipping through a straw are radial lines emanating from your lips, otherwise called smokers lines. They are a result of pursing your lips over and over again. The masseter muscle is a strong muscle of your jaw that assists with chewing and is not used when pursing your lips.
I've seen many patients that have lip lines because of straw sipping. It doesn't cause the masseters to hypertrophy. Masseters get larger from bruxism, grinding one's teeth or chewing gum.
It is very difficult to accurately answer your question as I don't know exactly where on your forhead or glabella you were treated and how many units you were given. The Botox works by weakening the muscles that create dynamic wrinkles in the area that you were treated. If you allow it to wear...
In most cases, the effect of a Botox injection is complete by 5-7 days so I doubt you will see any further change. From your photo it appears that the medial eyebrow has dropped excessively while the lateral or tail of the eyebrow is too elevated. This imbalance can be...
Botox can soften permanent lines but fillers is really the best way to address them completely. Please see an injector for a physical assessment to determine which treatment is right for you.
