My implant on top was done over 6 months ago and sticks out on one side. I can feel it not in my lip on the left side. The doctor tried to fix it once but it still did not go where it needs to be , also it moves back and forth nonstop. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Also the middle of my lip is staying purple on top and won’t seem to heal. Any ideas of what to do ?! I would be grateful.
Answer: The implant is going to need to be removed and replaced possibly with a longer implant. Hello,I am answering this question without examining you. If I had the opportunity to examine you, feel the implant as well as measure your lip and know what length implant you had inserted I would be able to give you a much more accurate answer. Number one, it sounds like the implant is misplaced and possibly to superficial i.e., close to the surface on the side that you can feel the implant. Also, it may be that the implant is too short and not extending all the way to the corner of that side. If your implant is sliding back-and-forth that is also another indication that the implant is too short. The implant should extend from one corner of the mouth to the other corner of the mouth and if you can feel one end of the implant and it’s not in the corner of the mouth then we may be dealing with an implant that’s too short. One option is to remove the implant, allow your lip to heal and then replace the implant six or eight weeks later. I would make sure that you’re using the right length of implant. It may be difficult but not impossible to revise again using the current implant, given that is the right length, and change the depth of the side that you can feel and have it remain in the new position. This would require using some sutures to maintain its new depth. You should return to the operating surgeon and discuss options to correct this situation. Best regards,Dr. Mitchell.

Answer: Lip implant upsize For Lip implants that shift, consider upsizing to the 5mm implant. I haven't tried placing 2 implants in any patient, but i know there are reports of others who have done this. Because of the implant pocket you have, any manipulation of the current implant again likely will not solve the problem. With this said, you need an exam of the nonhealing area and it may just be best in the end to remove the implant and start over again later once the pocket closes similar to what would be done for a misplaced chin implant.
