Swelling or too much Voluma?

It is likely too early to tell if your current result is due to swelling or the filler itself.  As mentioned, swelling and bruising are the most common side effects seen with fillers.  Typically, swelling can last up to 1-2 weeks and is a result of a variety of factors (injection technique, volume, individual patient characteristics, etc).  I would give it some time before doing anything and allow any potential swelling to fully resolve.  If at that point you feel that there is too much filler, then I would recommend seeing your physician to discuss potential reversal with hyaluronidase.  In the interim, icing will help but be careful not to apply to much pressure when applying the ice to the area that was recently injected.

Thank you for sharing your question and congratulations on your Voluma treatment!  Typically after treatment with Voluma "what you see is what you get" and you should return to this appearance once your swelling resolves.  Your current symptoms should improver over the next 10-14 days as it often takes up to 2 weeks for fillers to soften and the tissues to appear more natural.  In the meantime try reducing the swelling by using cold compresses, and elevating your head at night with a couple of extra pillows behind your back.  You may want to also consider using Arnica Montana and bromelain as supplements.  Hang in there!

Swelling and bruising is one of the most common side effects from filler injections. The intensity of the side effects depends on the injector, amount of product and as you correctly point out the use of cannula vs needle. Needles result in a greater amount of bruising than cannulas. If the swelling persists more than a week, you should go back to your doctor and request injection with hyalurodinase to dissolve excess amount of filler.
