Scar from FUT? (Photos)

Question

Having had my 2nd FUT procedure..iv been told the surgeon found it difficult to stitch me up... the 1st one was excellent.. but I'm 9 months post op.. theres part of the scar the size and width of my thumb that is totally smooth.. it looks like an alopecia patch... Iv been told to wait a good 6 months.. but I'm convinced it won't grow back... this is definitely different to the first FUT I had done...

Sometimes you can have hair loss around the donor scar area.  It may grow back.  You may have to wait one full year in general.

It looks to me like some permanent shock loss around the incision line occurred due to too tight closure. I would probably recommend FUE grafting that area.

The scar from a Strip FUT procedure can vary in quality and width. However, hair should only be absent in the scar itself. If there is loss of hair around the scar at 9 months post op then this is unlikely to recover and is probably due to permanent damage to the follicles in the alopecia area. You should see the surgeon who did the procedure and seek their opinion and advice. If there is not enough skin laxity to do a scar revision then it might be possible to put FUE grafts into the area to provide some hair coverage.

The best method to do a FUT is with special trycophytic closure, as it results in having hair growth from the scar itself, making the scar less visible. 9 months post-hair transplant it is very less likely to except any growth here after. The best options are either to keep the hair long enough above the scar to cover it or to consider scalp-micro-pigmentation; which will result in camouflaging it. The last option is to consider a small FUE-hair transplant touch-up on the scar.
