Botox in the masseter and now I can’t smile properly on one side? (Photos)

Thank you for your question. It is possible that your Botox may have diffused to the adjacent zygomaticus muscle and this is a result of your asymmetric smile. Unfortunately, Botox takes 3-6 months to wear off and there is no way to reverse it. I recommend having a follow up with your injector for an evaluation. Best of Luck!

The masseter treatments rely on chemodenervation of the muscle causing it to waste away. Unfortunately, occasionally some Botox may spread to the smile muscles due to their proximity. 
This will wear off over the next month. Smiling lots may help stimulate the muscles to move again too. Be reassured that this is not a permanent concern and will settle down...your dimples will return. 

When masseter muscles are injected with Botox the result should be a more relaxed jaw, with less masseter muscle contraction, and a narrower facial appearance. One side could have responded more to the Botox or it could have migrated a little and affected your levator muscle (the one that lifts the side of your mouth on that side). The good news is that it will wear off in the next 2-3 months.

It appears that your injector inadvertently injected some Botox into your left zygomaticus muscles. This will slowly resolve in the next few months.

Sorry to hear about your experience. If the injections are placed incorrectly, the Botox or Dysport may diffuse to the adjacent risorious or zygomaticus muscles and this can result in an asymmetric smile. Unfortunately, there is no way to reverse this. You will have to wait for the Botox to wear off. 

There are a number of different methods of injecting the masseter and one method which is often used injects too medially so that the smile can be affected. unfortunately it just has to wear off and next time discuss this with yhour doctor and be sure you see a board certified and experience dermatologist

Thank you for your question.  The Botox can sometimes diffuse to other muscles in the area that is being treated other than the intended muscle, when this happens it weakens the unintended muscle.  Usually when this happens it is a very small amount and the effect will wear off within a few days to weeks, unfortunately there is nothing that can be done to speed the resolution of the undesired effect.  It is uncommon for this to happen but fortunately it will resolve.

Generally speaking, botox should not affect the way people smile when injected into the masseter muscle. But in your case it is the fact that your dimples are gone and the good news is is that they will come back in 3 to 4 months or maybe even sooner.
