Is left over areola down suture line common after augmentation? Moderate plus profile, 355 and 405 CC. (Photos)

Question

I had large areolas and was a small B cup. I had a lift and augmentation with 355 and 405 mod plus implants. I noticed the brown going down the front of my breast next to my suture line. The PS said my areola was too big and couldn’t remove all of it. I’ve never seen or heard of this before and am pretty bummed! I also had T Junction dehiscence. Is left over areola common for larger areolas?

Occasionally women who have a augmentation/lift combination with large aerola will have some aerola retained in order to safely close the incisions. Once your tissues adjust and relax this aerola will be able to be trimmed out with a minor revision. Discuss with your surgeon and he will probably do this for minimal cost. Without good preoperative evaluation it would be difficult to answer your question. There may be situations where placement of very large implant may prevent complete excision of large arteola when lift is performed. In that case, secundary excision of residual areola tissue can be done 6 months or longer after first surgery, in local anesthesia. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question. On occasion it is not possible to remove all of the excess areola at the time of the initial surgery. However, and as it appears in your case, this is something that can be done quite easily as a revision and Often times in the office under local anesthesia. Good luck

That happens commonly and is a very simple minor procedure  to remove the left over pigment skin. I’m sure your surgeon will know how to correct it

Hello!
I would recommend you undergo scar revision of the midbreast incisions with removal of remaining pigment. It might have been challenging for your surgeon at the first procedure. This is much easier to do secondarily. It can be done under local anesthesia.

After a breast lift surgery it is common to have areola pigment left over along the vertical incision down the center of the breast. Often times to ensure incision closure, your surgeon may have some limitations to the amount of tissue that can be removed, resulting in left over pigment.

Unfortunately, it is often the case where a plastic surgeon is unable to remove all of the areola and a lift or breast reduction procedure. Usually the plastic surgeon will do his or her very best to remove as much of the aerial as possible but If too much skin is removed, The risk of wound healing problems is even higher than at baseline.

Yes, left over areola sometimes is present on the vertical scar. This can be revised once your tissue relax if you wish and can be done in the office under local anesthesia.
