peripheral neuropathy is not a contraindication for surgery as long as your medical conditions are well controlled. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

There are many types and causes for peripheral neuropathy. If diabetes is the cause for your nerve damage, blood sugar levels should be normalized or very tightly regulated before considering surgery.

Neuropathy does not prohibit a BBL surgery necessarily. If you are determined to be a good candidate for a BBL, we would ask for help from your primary care physician to have you worked up for pre-operative clearance, making sure that it is safe for you to undergo the anesthesia and surgery.The optimal outcomes are achieved with: 1) use of VASER liposuction to harvest the fat, 2) a closed looped system such as Puregraft to process the fat, and 3) strategic micro-packet transplant technique.  It's not the peripheral neuropathy that is important but rather what is causing it.  Simply having peripheral neuropathy by itself should not limit your ability to have a BBL.  If for example it's related to diabetes then your diabetes is fairly advanced and you already have fairly significant tissue damage in your body.  In that case having any unnecessary elective procedures may not be the best idea for a multitude of reasons.  This may be a question better asked to your primary care doctor.  Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
