Would liposuction alone minimize stubborn fat in my stomach area? 25 y/o (photos)

Hello. I am 25 years old. i have lost weight and plan to lose some more. But my stomach fat has been very stubborn, even at lower weights. I do not have children, but may want to have some someday. So I would like to avoid a tummy tuck now. Is lipo by itself worth it for me? And can the lipo be performed with general anesthesia? I am okay with some loose skin.

The photos show a combination of abdominal fullness and some skin laxity, especially in the lower abdomen. Liposuction can be a reasonable option if your main goal is to reduce the stubborn fat and you are comfortable with the possibility that the skin may not tighten fully afterward. It will not remove extra skin, tighten stretched skin like a tummy tuck, or correct significant muscle separation if present. Since you are planning to lose more weight, it is usually best to wait until you are close to a stable, maintainable weight before surgery so the result is more predictable.

Wanting to avoid a tummy tuck before future pregnancies is understandable. Pregnancy can change the abdomen again, so many patients postpone tummy tuck surgery until after children, while liposuction may still be considered earlier if expectations are realistic. General anesthesia can be used for abdominal liposuction, though some surgeons use deep sedation or tumescent/local anesthesia depending on the amount of liposuction, your health, and the facility. An in-person exam with a board-certified plastic surgeon is needed to assess skin quality, fat thickness, and abdominal wall tone, then decide whether liposuction alone is likely to give enough improvement for you.

When looking at your photos, it appears that you have some lax skin as well. If you are able to grab your fat from right below your bellybutton and pull it upwards towards your breasts, that is a sign that your skin has been stretched and now has some laxity to it .  Going in and only doing liposuction would leave you with excess skin in which case we would suggest a full Tummy Tuck. We do like to factor in a person's age, weight  and skin quality as well when making these decisions. Liposuction can remove the fat. However, the skin may hang. Since you are 24 years old, I recommend you start wearing a compressive garment prior to liposuction. This will help mold the skin. After liposuction, you will need to wear the compressive garment as well to help the skin recoil.

You would do very well to get lipo with bodytite/morpheus to help tighten up the skin.  It is easy to  undergo and makes a big improvement but get it done under local with iv sedation  for best, safest results rather than general.

Based on your photos, history, and stated goals, I would say that you are a great candidate for abdominal liposuction, particularly the upper/lower abdomen and love handles. In our practice, we perform 'awake' liposuction under tumescent anesthesia with IV sedation as well as 'general' anesthesia with patients completely under anesthesia. Both techniques have pros and cons, and a discussion with your surgeon can help you determine which method would be most appropriate for you. Good luck!
