Ultherapy vs. V-beam? I want a treatment for a sagging jaw line and acne scars.

Ultherapy is great for tightening skin non-surgically.  VBeam laser is used to improve redness: red scars, red veins, rosacea, cherry angiomas, etc.

There can be some tightening obtained when Fraxel laser resurfacing is done, especially the Fraxel Repair laser and this can help reduce acne scarring.  There are risks of all procedures and during the consultation the physician should evaluate the patient's skin and discuss the benefits and risks.  Some patients can have both Ultherapy and Fraxel Repair, with the Fraxel done after the Ultherapy.  Fraxel Restore/Dual, is done as a series of treatments as opposed to the Repair, which is usually done as one treatment, but the Restore isn't expected to produce much tightening.The V-beam is not expected to help reduce acne crater scarring to any significant degree (although it does reduce the redness of acute acne inflammation) or produce skin tightening. 

Without a photograph it is difficult to predict whether or not you would achieve satisfactory outcomes from a single treatment.  If I were to think about 1 treatment that might address both issues it would probably be some type of resurfacing.  However, I would need to see both the skin and the acne scars.  Good luck!

Ultherapy is the only FDA-cleared treatment for noninvasive skin lifting. There are several options for acne scars but no really good ones. Fractionated lasers could help, but allow for a little recovery time.

Hello Beate. Ultherapy is the best treatment to tighten and firm the sagging skin of the jawline. It will also help to decrease excess skin hooding in the area of the eyelids, which will open up your eyes and arch your eyebrow. I would recommend it to address your concerns in these areas. As far as the acne scarring goes, there is no definitive evidence as of yet that Ultherapy will treat this. However, acne scarring can be successfully treated with fractional resurfacing versus a series of chemical peels depending on how aggressive you want to be. Hope this helps answer your questions. Hi B,Ultherapy is the best non-surgical device treatment for lifting and tightening the tissues of the face, neck, and brows.  Lower eyelid skin responds to Ultherapy.  Only eyelid skin that is over bone can be safely treated.  There are current studies being carried out for the treatment of acne scars with Ultherapy.  I have treated patients like you with a combination of Ulthera to lift and tighten and Fraxel repair (fractionated CO2) to address acne scarring at the same treatment session.  I would recommend Ultherapy for you with the possibility of adding concurrent Fraxel repair.  Be sure to choose your treating physician most carefully.  Good luck and be well.Michael Persky, MDEncino, CA
