Can ultherapy be used to lift the upper lip and shorten the philtrum?

Ulthera can cause some tightening of the tissues.  So you may get a slight lift when done on the upper lift.  It will be subtle!  Better options are lip lift or fillers.

Hi Alyssa. I don't think Ultherapy will help to lift your lip. It can help soften the vertical lip lines around the lip, but will not shorten the philtrum. Sometimes fillers can help to lift the lip and shorten the distance from the upper lip to the nose. Without seeing you, or at least your pictures, it's hard to tell whether you would be a candidate for this. The best thing to do is to schedule an in-person consultation. Best wishes. 

The best treatment for this is a surgical lip lift, which can be done easily by a well trained physician.  The nonsurgical treatments for this are rarely effective.  Fillers can sometimes help sometimes but need to be done by a meticulous experienced injector.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Ultherapy works by heating collagen in and under the skin.  Heating collagen "shrinks" collagen and results in lifting.  It is FDA approved for lifting the brow, lifting the jaw and has been used "off label" to lift the breasts, the knees, the elbows and even the buttocks. There is reason to believe scientifically that one would see some lifting of the lip (shortening of the philtrum) when treated with Ultherapy.  Treatment of this area is FDA approved and lifting, firming and tightening are all FDA approved terms used to describe results.  The best thing is there is no surgery, no scars and no recovery and it can be repeated.

Hi and thanks for yor question. From my observations ultherapy will not shorten your philtrum and lift your upper lip. The device does offer some utility in the reduction of fine lines of the upper lip. Ultherapy can tighten skin about the face and thus the facial fat may appear more contoured.  Please seek  an experienced physician. Good luck. Dr. Burnett

Thank you for your question.The Philtrum is the groove in the upper lip and typically 11-13 mm in females. Ultherapy has not been studied and has no FDA clearance to reduce the height of the philtrum. Knowing the mechanism of how Ultherapy works, I can't see how it would accomplish that goal. I recommend that you speak to a facial plastic surgeon to achieve your desired cosmetic goal(s). I recommend Dr Raffy at Kare Plastic Surgery in Santa Monica.
