Can a rhinoplasty lengthening the columella shorten the philtrum? (photos)

I want to get a rhinoplasty to fix multiple issues with my nose, one of the fixes involving lengthening the columella. I also happen to have a too-long philtrum. Will lengthening my columella also fix a long philtrum?

Hello,What you want is not called 'lengthening the columella'. It is actually lengthening the caudal septum so that your columella sits lower than the ala, and will also shorten the philtral length. So, yes, it will improve  your lip aesthetics too. Best of luck!

Tough problem to solve surgically. You have to move the septal cartilage and the medial crura of the lower lateral cartilage forward. This may require grafting of cartilage which can be difficult to secure in a straight line. Your upper lip can be shortened by making an incision following the contour of you ala and the junction of the collumela and excise excess lip skin to pull your lip upward. Can be difficult to disguise this incision and make everything look normal. So, in other words, you need to find a surgeon with a big S on his scrubs to help you out with this so it does not get screwed up in an irreversible manner.

Hi there, thank you for your photos and questions. I am going to be very honest with you. In my opinion, your current photos show a beautiful nose and very natural nose. I might be missing something in the photos that could be better seen in a consultation in person and full face analysis. But I would caution you about pursuing rhinoplasty particularly if your main concern in the columella and the philtrum.I would encourage you to consider filler augmentation for your upper lip or even a subnasal lip lift before pursing rhinoplasty.Hope you find this information helpful
