I had areola reduction done and the permanent stitch undid so my left areoles was double the size of other. 6 months after I had surgery again to match the areolas same story happened so 6 months after that I had both done again because I wanted them both smaller and too match. Is having surgery in same area 4 times (Every 6 months) bad? I am now thinking of getting implants and areoles reduction at same time yet I'm concerned it's too many times and areoles won't be as small as I want
Answer: Multiple Donut revisions I have to agree with Dr. Minitti's comments below. The wrong operation was performed. As a revisionary breast specialist, I find that donut mastopexies are often overused and result in poor scarring. I also find the repeated revisions of the donut scars usually fail. No one wants a vertical scar, but most patients realize that the scar heals very nicely and minimally noticeable, especially compared to a poor circumareolar scar. You are an excellent candidate for a lollipop lift which would improve the shape of your breasts and make the scar much better. Best of luck to you.

Answer: Circumareolar Reduction Hello,You might want to think about why you've had so many problems after your areolar reductions. It is because it is the wrong surgery for your large and ptotic breasts. Now that you're deciding on an augmentation, you should consider a proper mastopexy that will once and for all address your problem areola with fine scaring and no risk of asymmetric or excessive re-expansion.Best of luck!

Answer: Make the next revision plan different There is no specific limit on revisions provided that they are far enough apart for complete healing. However, you don't want to just keep repeating the same thing if it hasn't worked. Here are some things to consider:If you have implants at the same time as an areolar reduction it can place more tension on the closure and risk spreading again. There are different ways to support an areolar reduction other than permanent sutures. These include a Strattice or SERI donut (see the link below)It may not be possible to reduce the areolas more without flattening the breast or pleating the skin. Converting to a vertical pattern lift would allow for more reduction.

Answer: Too many revisions on areolas There is truth to your concern that having too many breast surgeries can be hazardous to a good outcome. That being said with your type of breast surgery (donut mastopexy) it is common that the scarring can spread because there is too much tension on that one incision. You will benefit from a full mastopexy (anchor scar) so that the incision itself has less tension on it, therefore creating a smaller line as it heals. Make sure you seek in person consultations with Board Certified Plastic Surgeons who peform a lot of revision breast surgeries, especially lifts. Best of luck to you!!
