4 weeks post-op TT and lipo, how often should I change surgical tape over my stitches? What I can use to remove the tape?

Dear Des13,my protocol after tummy tuck consists of:Week 1- Remove black stitches, retape, check drain output log- possibly remove left drainWeek 2- Remove blue stitches, retape, start wearing binder, check drain output log- possibly remove right drainWeek 3- Retape Week 4- Retape Week 5- Retape Stop tape in one week- Start biocorneum 50 grams. RTC in 2 weeks2 Month- Surveillance, check for spitting sutures6 Month- SurveillanceBut every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. Every plastic surgeon has their own personal recommendations when it comes to post-operative care. Make sure that you are following your surgeon’s instructions to ensure the best results. We recommend consulting with your doctor to further address your concerns. 

I would recommend visiting your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon if you have concerns about what you can and cannot remove. Every surgeon has a different method of closing. I close in a way that no sutures need to be removed so when I apply the steri-strips on the incisions at the end of the case I recommend my patients refrain from removing them until they come off on their own, which could be weeks. The steri-strips give the incision extra support which is important during the healing process. Again, talk to your surgeon to figure out what their post-op protocol is. Good luck and best wishes!
