It goes without saying that if you have side effects with propecia i would recommend stopping the medication and seeing your Doctor. In some males the side effects do go away with continued use and some side effects can persist with continued use. Generally those who stop the medication after suffering from side effects recover well. In a very small cohort of patients the side effects persist despite stopping the medication. 

The studies have shown that the side effects of propecia should go away with continued use in 60% of patients. However, there is an after market addition to the package insert that states that there have been reports of persistent side effects (post finasteride syndrome) even after discontinuation of the medicine. While this is rare it has been reported, so patients need to make an informed decision as to what to do. In my practice, we have used propecia with great success.
