I'm 19 yrs old and I would like to get the hump on my nose removed soon. I also have breathing problems and I would like to know around how much $ should I save up for the typical rhinoplasty job near the Los Angeles area.

The cost for a rhinoplasty in LA is really all over the board. It depends not only on real value-for-your-dollar items such as technical ability, sense of aesthetics, experience and years in practice, but perceived worthy qualities such as location, office appearance and social media comments (which may or may not be valid). Prices appear to be between $5,000 and $15,000 with the majority being somewhere in between. It is best to see several doctors who specialize in nasal surgery to find the one who seems to be on the same page with you regarding the end result you seek, as well as one who has demonstrated through many "before & afters" that he has the technical ability to get there. If you are buying an item of clothes, go to the store selling that item at the best price. But don't try to find the cheapest surgeon to operate on your face!

Sometimes if you are able to combine a functional component with the cosmetic portion, there is a chance your insurance will pick up a portion of the surgery. The cost of a rhinoplasty is directly determined by amount of time it takes to perform the procedure in an operating room, time under anesthesia monitored by an anesthesiologist, and the surgeon's professional fee for performing the procedure. There are many issues inside the nose that can cause breathing issues such as a deviated septum and valve collapse, but it's important to have an in person examination to determine the cause of the breathing obstruction. Also important to try medical management first before any surgical intervention on breathing. Functional breathing surgery, when medically necessary, can be billed to the patient's medical insurance. The cosmetic rhinoplasty is  paid for by the patient themselves. Prices in your area are higher than other parts of the country. A typical price range for a highly experienced rhinoplasty surgeon would likely fall between $7000 - 15,000. In many major cities, the price would likely fall at the lower end of that range but depending upon which office you choose and which part of LA you might be looking at the higher end. Regardless of price, choose a rhinoplasty expert who choose to focus on nasal surgery and performs at least 100 rhinoplasty cases each year. While we are all concerned about the cost of products and services make sure you select an experienced surgeon who shows you natural results in multiple patients who had noses similar to yours. You want your nose done correctly without the need for multiple procedures; revisions are more difficult and cost more.
