The top of your ears should still be brought closer to your head. The gentlest way of doing this is with the Dr Merck Stitch Method as the ear is not cut open but only treated with needle prick points and stitches.
I am sorry to hear about uour difficulties. The single most important step will be to choose an experienced surgeon. Choosing someone with an ear reconstruction practice would be a start.
