Had rhinoplasty 7 days ago. Nose looks very wide and avatar-esque after surgery. Feeling down and regretful. Thoughts? (photo)

Hello, It usually takes 1-3 years for the swelling to fully go down after a rhinoplasty. The tip takes the longest time to heal and mold to the new framework because it is the thickest skin of the nose. The skin over the profile is thinner than the skin over the tip. This does take about a year to notice a difference. After a nasal bump is removed, the nasal appearance nearly always widens. If your surgeon adequately infractured your nasal sidewalls on both sides with osteotomies, your nasal appearance should narrow as swelling reduces. Best to see your surgeon for reassurance. Postoperative taping with Medpore or Blenderm tape may help to ameliorate this condition a little sooner. 

Hello and thank you for your question.  The swelling post rhinoplasty is slow to settle and can take months and even up to a year to do so completely. The final result of the surgery only becomes apparent after all the swelling has subsided. So it is far too early to worry or expect to see any result from the procedure. You should relax and allow the healing to take place.If ongoing concerns, see your surgeon.All the best.

Don't worry!  You are still swollen at a week and it takes some time for it t go away.  The more bruised and swollen you are, the longer it will take - much longer than a week!!  Each patient is different, so what you see with one person may have little to do with what you see.  Your doctor was there at the time of your surgery and saw how you REALLY look (before swelling and bruising) so let him see you and I'm sure you can be reassured that all will be well.
