Is it normal to still bleed from one side after drain removal from gynecomastia surgery?

I am 4 days post op from gynecomastia drains were removed today but i still have blood running out from one side, i was told to squeeze down gently and let the blood run out and to repeat daily until it becomes less.. Is this normal and a good tip?

This is a good question and typically not to be alarmed about.  I typically pull the drains form my patients between days 3 through 5 and almost all of them will have a tinge of blood at the drain site until the body naturally closes the small opening where the drain came out.  This normal takes about 24 hours.  If the chest all of a sudden starts swelling significantly and suddenly, then you should consult your surgeon as this may be a little blood collecting in the pocket where the fat and gland was removed and/or reduced.  "Milking" the area of you liposuction towards the drain site is also good advise and many surgeons, including myself, recommend this after drain removal for the first twenty four to 48 hours after surgery!

There is different between bleeding and spotting. If you are truly bleeding contact your surgeon immediately.
