Trauma to the nose will move bones after surgery. When the splint is off, that is when you should use extreme caution. Heavy breathing and sniffing will not move the bones. Your airway feels congested because you have swelling on the inside of the nose as well as the outside. Follow up with your surgeon for an exam.
When the cast is removed after rhinoplasty I tell my patients to avoid trauma or pressure on the nasal bones for about 5 weeks. Heavy breathing or sniffing will not move the bones.

Our office recommends that our patients take 100 grams of protein per day in the healing phase for the first six weeks following surgery. If the protein shakes only contain protein then this is probably OK. You and your plastic surgeon can discuss specific brands.
