Herbalife Protein Shakes for meal supplements after rhinoplasty?

I just came out of surgery today and i was wondering if it is ok to drink Herbalife protein shake after rhinoplasty? I’m trying to avoid opening my mouth to consume food because my face is sore .

Our office recommends that our patients take 100 grams of protein per day in the healing phase for the first six weeks following surgery.  If the protein shakes only contain protein then this is probably OK. You and your plastic surgeon can discuss specific brands.

Dear CaliLily, I would check with your surgeon and confirm what is in the protein drink. Many of these drinks contain vitamins and herbs that could cause bleeding concerns. A protein drink that was just protein would be fine mixed with water or juice not milk. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
