How Long Does It Take "Open Incisions" to Close and Later Bruising Normal?

Question

I had a revision 6 days ago on stomach and inner thighs, this doctor left he incisions open there was almost no pain, no bruising and little swelling. However I've noticed little bruises surfaced today, 6 days later, is this normal? Also the incisions were left open and I'd love to know if anyone can advise as to how long they take to close? I am keeping them clean and apply steri strips, no longer draining, they are tiny but I'd like to start working out and fear infection if sweat gets on it.

Delay bruising is common and is nothing to worry about. All drainage after liposuction should cease within 48 hours even without stitching of the entry points.

Wounds or incisions that heal on their own, known as secondary intention healing, can take from days to weeks depending on their size. Obviously, smaller wounds will heal on the quicker side of the spectrum. I would not generally recommend applying any type of topical until they are closed.

Amy, I can not think of any reason to leave a incision open - maybe a dog bite to prevent infection. Some Doctors leave liposuction incision open- I can not see where this even make any since. However they should close over 2 weeks - band aid and antibiotic ointment.

Some surgeons do not close the liposuction incisions. THey will probably close within a few days to a week.

Hi. I'm assuming you had lipo done in which case I'd expect the incisions to be closed in 7-10 days. Keep them clean and use an antibiotic ointment until they close over.
