I had a BL & BA in March 2017. I had wound dehiscence on the T incision part of both of my breast. I was told to do Dakins wet to dry gauze treatments. It's been 3 months & they're still open. Does this look infected? How much longer will it take to heal? Is there anything else I can do to speed the process up? Thanks!

Answer: Breast wounds I'm sorry you are having trouble with healing. Unfortunately, this is all too common. My preference is to wait until the wounds heal and then revise the scars as necessary. This may take more time but the end result seems superior at least in my experience. A multivitamin and balanced diet helps. Best of luck.

Answer: Wound healing after breast lift with implants Your situation is not that uncommon. Breast lifts with a T or vertical approach have at least one intersection at the areolar border to the vertical limb, with the T approach having a second intersection at the T apex. These are points where the blood supply may peter out or the tension on the closure is greatest. Sometimes we use large anchoring sutures to try to keep these flaps together at that point for a few weeks. Open wounds may take a few months to close but it may be worth your surgeon's considering taking a culture of the wound to be sure there is no bacterial colonization or contamination preventing the wound from closing.
