I got restylane injected in my tear througs 2 months ago and one week ago i got belotero hydro in the same area and i feel like the restylane effect is gone. Can the restylane filler be affected/broken or dissolve by the new filler or by the canula in this case?
Answer: Can layering of dermal fillers make them dissolve faster? Thank you for sharing your interesting question. Layering of fillers is quite common and should not cause any problems. The most important factor of achieving optimal results is the precise level of skin where fillers are placed. They will dissolve faster if not placed correctly. Make sure to see an experienced eyelid specialist when being treated in this delicate region of the face.Good luck,

Answer: Can Layering Fillers make them dissolve? Hi Tesla. Generally speaking, we would say no. We layer dermal fillers all the time and do not expect nor anticipate that this would cause any dissolving of new fillers since the products you have are both Hyaluronic acid based. What was interesting about your post was that a cannula was used for the Belotero. One of the reasons we do not use a cannula, especially in the under eye area is that it is literally a "blunt" instrument. Those that use it claim to get less bruising, which may be true, but there is also much less finesse and artistry when using a cannula. It's possible (although perhaps not likely) that the cannula did move some of the existing Restylane around and that you lost some benefit although there is no way to know for sure. We do prefer Restylane for the tear trough area and you can find photos of before and after photos for our Los Angeles patients at the link below.

Answer: Not so fast. Belotero is not useful for the under eye area, in my opinion. It is a very runny filler with low tissue lift. Technically, we say it is a product with high tan delta and low G prime. In contrast, Restylane has a low tan delta and high G prime. This product must be sculpted into place to prevent lumps and bumps. That often means that a post treatment adjustment is need to address any lumps and bumps that persist after treatment. The benefit of this is that Restylane has tremendous tissue lift and does not drift. Juvederm products are intermediate and in my opinion also not suitable for the under eye area. What happens when you mix products? The word layer is not really accurate. They mix in the tissue and the result is an amalgam. The overall viscoelastic properties of the amalgam will be intermediate of the two types of product. If effect, injecting the belotero in your under eye will seem to dissolve the effect of the Restylane. I recommend seeing injectors who know what they are doing. This is not the place to save a few bucks with an inexperienced injector.

Answer: Longevity of Fillers (Restylane, Belotero) and Layering Fillers No, layering fillers will not make them dissolve faster. Keep in mind, it takes 1-2 weeks for final results. Cannulas are useful with injections because they limit swelling, but they won't negatively impact results. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Can layering dermal fillers make them dissolve faster? Thank you for your question. No, layering filler will cause them to dissolve faster. Please remember that it can take up to 2 weeks for all swelling to resolve and to see your final results. Cannulas are used to help minimize bruising and swelling with injection, but they do not negatively impact your results.
