Is Juvederm Ultra Plus better for mild nasolabial folds or Radiesse?

Juvederm Ultra Plus is a hyaluronic acid formulation that is thick enough to reduce nasolabial folds and smooth enough to produce a natural result. The filler offers fast results that can last up to eight months or longer. Radiesse contains calcium microspheres that form a scaffolding support under the skin for quick improvement. At the same time, the filler triggers the body to produce collagen, for longer-lasting results that can extend up to a year or longer. Radiesse is thicker and stiffer than Juvederm Ultra Plus in general and is better for to lifting cheeks and jawlines.

I tend to prefer hyaluronic acid products for the nasolabial folds because they produce the most natural, comfortable results. Restylane Refyne may also work well in your case, as it looks natural with movement due to its elastic qualities. Radiesse generally works better in areas where volume or lift is needed, such as the cheekbones or jawline. Thank You for question.I recommend fillers to soften the nasolabial folds themselves and also lift around the mouth and cheeks to build underlying anatomical support. In our practice we combine Sculptra with other fillers "layered" on top and lasers, skin tightening treatments such as Thermage, Fractora, and Renuvion (J Plasma), thread lifting, and peels to get the most conservative, natural look. Hi S,Both fillers can correct nasolabial folds, both stimulate a little of your own collagen production so that there is some effect after they have been reabsorbed, though Radiesse is more stimulating.  I prefer to use Restylane Defyne in this area because it moves well with facial expressions.  Choose your injecting physician carefully.  Good luck and be well.Dr. PerskyEncino, CA

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  If only mild I would recommend the JVD ultra plus over radiesse.  This would permit a more flexible result than radiesse which better matches the motion seen in this area.  

Some people respond better to a particular type of filler. Overall any hyaluronic acid should give you your desired result if injected properly. Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid. So it's reversible. Moreover, there are different factors that determine how to appropriately administer a filler.

It is difficult to say without any photos, but for most of my patients I prefer Juvederm in the nasolabial folds instead of Radiesse. Radiesse is a much more firm filler and is a great product to use for cheeks, jawline, and other areas where a firmer filler is required for a lifting effect. Radiesse may last up to a year and for Juvederm the average is more around 6-8 months. The filler will dissipate over time in a uniform fashion.  I usually recommend to come in every 3-4 months for filler to maintain results.

I prefer Juvederm Ultra Plus or Juvederm Vollure into the nasolabial fold because it tends to appear more natural and soft when you speak and move your mouth. Radiesse is excellent for the hands, chin, or cheekbones, but I feel it can be a little too "hard" for the nasolabial folds area. Radiesse and Vollure last the longest compared to Ultra Plus.  Hope this helps!
