Can IPL laser damage the eyes?

Thank you for your question in regards to IPL. Glasses and/or eye shields are worn by the patient and laser technician to protect your eyes. If you have not experienced any problems with your eyes after treatment, and it has been two year, you are likely to be okay. To be sure, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. What you describe is unusual. If there was going to be any problems you should have been able to see it by now. 2 years after the IPL is very unusual to start having visual problems related to the IPL. The eyes need to be covered for protection.Hope this helps,Dr. Gus Diaz

Any laser has the potential of damaging the eyes. However, patients and staff wear eyewear that protects them from injury during laser treatment.
