I have an indented scar from a Yag Laser burn! Can any filler or treatment lessen appearance of these scars? (photo)

About 6 months ago I treated large blue veins on my temple with Yag laser. The same visit, the small broken capillaries on my nostrils were treated.The same laser setting was used to treat the temple veins and small red broken capillaries on nostrils. The laser left blisters that turned to scabs that oozed and didn’t heal for a week. When scabs fell off scars were left behind. I have since had prp and aggressive microneedling but no improvement. Any suggested filler or procedure that could help?

This scar can be improved with vascular laser like yellow laser or excel v when its red and co2 spot treatment, fillers, microneedling/prp and subcision to help texture and blending. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a scarring expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Your scar appears to be several small indentations along the line of your supra-alar crease. Depending on your examination, microdroplet Silikon-1000 may be considered for filling these indentations for permanent filling. Hope this helps. Dr Joseph

A real dermabrasion is always the most aggressive and works the best to improve scars but may need to be done a couple of times.  Don't worry, it is fixable.

I'm sorry you have had a complication from your treatment. The scars are atrophic, meaning there has been a breakdown of collagen and fat in the area and subsequent fibrosis. They may improve naturally over time, and microneedling with PRP is worth continuing, especially if the original provider is doing these for you complementary. Hyaluronic acid fillers done by a very experienced provider is worth trying as the appearance of atrophic scars can be nicely improved. If you are looking for a more permanent solution, I would suggest consulting a facial surgeon for scar revision. I would seek out someone with expertise in MOHS micrographic surgery, they are used to treating this area surgically for skin cancers and can get you a beautiful result. Best, Dr. Tkatch

I’m sorry you experienced this. Unfortunately can happen when strong laser energy settings are used with the Yag laser especially around the nose. The scar appearance is what we call an ‘strophic scar’ where the collagen within the skin has broken down. With time this may improve without treatment but collagen building procedure such as local micro needling will be worthwhile considering and there is good medical evidence of microneedling being just as good as fractional lasers which I suspect you would be keen to avoid! Whether this lifts with Dermal filler depends whether the scar is fixed or not but often even if the scar is tethered down and fixed with the needle of the dermal fillers a procedure known as subcision is done. Don’t forget high sunscreen and high retinol cream also helps scar remodelling. All the best

You most definitely can try treating the scars with the use of hyaluronic acid fillers. But if you want a permanent result I recommend being evaluated and treated either by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon who is comfortable with the use of medical grade silicone oil.
