In general, if patients have experienced minimal pain in previous surgeries, they will have minimal pain with the BBL and breast implants. If you want small implants, you will have a flash recovery. I perform breast augmentation through all 4 incision approaches, and I do not think that incision makes any difference in pain. The main determinant of pain will be implant size. In general, most patients experience 3 or 4 days of spasm. However, the size of the patient, the anatomy, the size of the implant, and individual pain tolerance factors impact the recovery process. The first 3 to 4 days tend to be the worst for most BBL patients. Many of my patients feel well enough to return to work at 1 week, but some patients may need 2 weeks before returning to a sedentary job. At six weeks, they can return to strenuous exercise. For most of my patients, I tell them that at 6 weeks there is still a great deal of swelling in the abdomen, sides, and back (or wherever the liposuction was performed), and they will only look better in 6 months.
