I have always had a high/ugly hairline since I was little. My hairline is too high on my head and the corners go way too high up. I can't wear certain hairstyles because of this. I know hair transplants are not advised for young patients but I am not balding and have had the same hairline all my life. My 50 yr old dad and 70 yr old grandpa have the same hairline as me so I don't think I have balding issues. Could I get a hair transplant to lower my hairline and fill in corners that are too high?
Answer: Hairline Lowering Typically a young man around age 20 is not a good candidate for a hair transplant. Around the age of 25 is when we start seeing a pattern of hairloss and recession and would be able to make a good determination of what the future hairline will look like. A hair transplant can be used to lower the hairline, add density, and create a natural hairline. Young patients that aren't yet hair transplant candidates can usually start with medical management of hair loss. The first step would be to meet with a hair restoration expert to discuss family history and have a thorough exam. All the best,

Answer: Hair Line Lowering Hair transplants are a great and viable option for those wishing to lower their hairline due to receding hair loss. Based on your description, it sounds like your hair loss is not the result of hair loss, rather a naturally set back hairline that is genetically influenced. One risk of getting a hair transplant at a young age before balding has progressed, is that as balding progresses, you will be left with an awkward appearance, as the transplanted grafts are not subject to the same balding pattern. While it sounds like your father and grandfather don’t have hair loss, hair loss is partly genetic (from both paternal and maternal sides) and partly due to other individual factors. There’s no way to say with certainty that you will not experience hair loss later on down the road. This is why hair transplant surgeons often don’t recommend hair transplants for young patients. Of course, there are exceptions. You should meet with an experienced and certified hair restoration surgeon to confirm your candidacy.

Lowering your hairline before understanding where you will progress is not advisable at a young age. Pursue evaluations with well qualified, ethical surgeons.
