What's the difference between Embrace and Silicon Tape such as Mepitac?

On the Embrace website it says it is 100% silicon. So why pay $500 for Embrace when I can buy a roll of Mepitac for $20? What's the difference, if any? Are the results of Embrace that much better than silicon tape to justify the price difference?

Hello Pato.One clear difference is the results of Embrace Scar Prevention are much better than other treatments I have used in the past. Embrace is silicone with fibers that produce a significant reduction in the tension at the wound. When the product is applied correctly, the mechanical force reduction it produces will change the way the patient's DNA is expressed. Genes that create inflammation and fibrotic scarring are turned off and genes creating a more uniformed scar are turned on. No other product has been shown to change DNA expression. This research was done at Stanford University.  Please view my before and after photos using this product for a better idea of how it works.

Embrace is much more than just silicone.  Imagine a pre-stretched silicone sheet that, once applied, uniformly alleviates all tension on the incision.  This down-regulates over 1000 genes to improve the quality of a scar.  Silicone just happens to be what it's made of, but make no mistake, it is the dynamics of the dressing that actually do the trick.

Embrace is the only scar therapy that has Level 1 evidence behind it that it actually works.  It is a pre stretched silicone sheet that takes tension of a wound and therefore makes it heal with the best scar possible.
