Hi doctors. I’m only about 6 weeks post op so I understand my body is still healing and this is isn’t the final result, but I’ve had a dent on the side of my left pec since day 1 after surgery and it hasn’t seemed to change at all. Does it look like oversuction or does it look like it the gap/dent will eventually fill in? Is it possible scar tissue? I will say the area around is is still very hard. Should I be getting steroid injections to break up the tissue? Or will this need fat grafting? Thanks.
Answer: Dent Dear Meandmyeyes,I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.Daniel Barrett, MD Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Answer: Gynecomastia Postoperative Results Thank you for sharing your photographs and your questions. I tell my gynecomastia patients that it can take several weeks to months (6 months and more) before starting to see reliable postoperative results. Compliance with compression garments and limiting physical activity during the early postop period is just as important in determining your final results as the operation, itself. With respect to areas that are hard/firm, that may be part of the normal and expected tissue healing process. You are still relatively early on in your postop recovery, so at first blush I’d advise a little patience for your results and to share your concerns with your Plastic Surgeon; he or she will want to know how you’re feeling and will be best equipped to handle your questions and discuss expectations for results and revisions, if necessary. I hope this is helpful for you, best of luck with the rest of your recovery! Peter A. Felice, MD

Answer: Is this recovery from Gynecomastia procedure normal? Thanks for your question. At 6 weeks after surgery, you are still healing. The hard areas that you feel are temporary. I recommend that massage the areas daily to help them soften. I also recommend that you follow up closely with your surgeon.

Answer: Indentaton after Gynecomastia Surgery Depression or contour deformity can happen after any liposuction procedures. They usually show a few weeks after the procedure. It could be due to unintentional over liposuction. I would wait 3 - 6 months at least till the scar tissue softens, swelling completely resolves, then you might need either fat grafting or simply separation of fat without suction.Or it might becomes so subtle that you may not want to bother....

Answer: Gynecomastia Surgery Gynecomastia patients often have contour irregularities in the early weeks after surgery; most of these resolve in time with wearing the garments (I have patients wear them for up to 2-3 months) and time. Swelling is not unusual for weeks to months and you need to be patient. Puffiness or even slight indentations can often self-correct. Your surgeon will be checking you regularly but you may wish to revisit the question of whether the surgeon suggests wearing the garment longer since you are seeing puffiness.Trust me when I tell you that gynecomastia healing can be quite variable among patients and takes MONTHS to fully declare itself in terms of shaping. Some patients will have indentations, others swelling, others both, etc. until the tissues remodel, skin relaxes, and everything settles out. You should address your concerns, though, with your surgeon, especially if you appear to be healing with significantly more swelling on one side, in order to make sure no issue that needs acute intervention (like a seroma or hematoma) to improve the healing process.
