Dark circles and bags and red eyes from Latisse.

Question

I have been using Latisse for a for a few months and I have a brown ring around my lower lids and a large fat pad between my lower lid and the brown ring. This is new. I stopped using it. I am hoping this side effect will subside with time. Do you have any experience with this and how long it might take for my eyes to return to normal. Also is there anything I can do, aside for discontinuing use to aid in the healing. Thank you.

This should gradually fade now that you have discontinued use. As an alternative to Latisse,  I typically inject and apply topically PRP for a few treatments to improve the growth rate of the lashes. Take viviscal as well. See an expert for a formal evaluation. Best, Dr. Emer

Hi sdeen, thanks for your question.  I hope that discontinuing the use of Latisse has helped alleviate some of the side effects.  If you continue to have fat pads under your eyes, a surgical option, such as a blepharoplasty, may be a good choice to help eliminate the bags under your eyes.  I suggest consulting with a plastic surgeon for more information. It is possible the effect can reverse since you have stopped the Latisse. Best to wait a few months and then see an oculoplastic specialist. If the problem persists, lower blepharoplasty and/or filler injection may be options.

Thank you for your question. Eyelid darkening and irritation can occur when using Latisse. The company advises that just stopping the use of the product will reverse the effects. I haven't seen this happen to many people but if the problem consists after a few months you should see your provider.

Two of the possible side effects of Latisse are pigmentation of the skin and inflammation. Most people experience neither of these. The pigmentation is caused by turning on the cells that create suntan pigment. Suntans always go away and so will this, but it may take up to two months to happen. Latisse doesn't cause bags or new blood vessels. It's likely that in addition to the pigmentation side effect, you are also experiencing at least modest inflammation which can bring with it both blood vessel dilation and swelling of the eyelids, causing the appearance of bags.

Thank you for your question. One of the side effects of latisse is hyperpigmentation (skin darkening), it is temporary and will resolve a few weeks after you have stopped use. The bags may be from the darkening and is the pigmentation that you are noticing. No need to be alarmed and yes it will resolve with time.
