Yesterday I had my cast removed (7 days op) and that there was a little bump left. I am really concerned because that was the main reason I had rhinoplasty. How big is the change that this is due to swelling?
Answer: Looks like bump not totally gone after cast removal? At only 7 days postop from rhinoplasty, you are still very early in your recovery with a tremendous amount of swelling in your nose. The swelling in your nose will resolve in a progressive fashion over months in the direction of gravity: the upper third will resolve in about 3 months, the middle third in about 6 months, and the tip in 9 - 12 months. In general, it takes a full year to see the final result. It is not uncommon to be frustrated at this point in your recovery. It is too early to judge the appearance at this point, as swelling likely is a big component of what you see. The skin has memory from the presence of the bump and has to shrink down over the next few months. I would recommend following up with your rhinoplasty surgeon to discuss any concerns you may have throughout the healing process. Good communication and rapport between patient and surgeon both before and after surgery is very important. Best of luck during your recovery! Ziyad Hammoudeh, MD

Answer: Looks like bump not totally gone after cast removal At one week following your rhinoplasty it is possible that at least some if not all of what is seen in the photo is swelling. Of course, it can be the hump still at least partially present. Discuss your concern with your surgeon and then give this time for the swelling to subside - at least 6 months.Steven Turkeltaub, MD

Answer: Bump 7 days after rhinoplasty The bump you are seeing is most likely due to swelling which can take 1-3 months to resolve. It can be frustrating to see a small bump still there. Your surgeon should be able to give you a better assessment as he or she continues to follow your progress after surgery.

Answer: Residual hump after rhinoplasty Within 7 days following nose surgery, no real judgment concerning the final result of the procedure can be made. Swelling after rhinoplasty surgery (especially an open procedure) is very common. It can take several months for the final result to be seen. You are still in the early healing phase. Continue to work closely with your plastic surgeon. He/She should be a source of reassurance and support as you continue to heal and improve. Several months from now, you just might love your result! Best of luck!

Answer: Sw There is a good chance that at 7 days following surgery, a significant portion of this residual bump is due to swelling. Be sure to follow all of your post-operative instructions and discuss any concerns with your surgeon during your follow up appointments.
