Breast thread lifting. Is this technique realistic?

Question

Very reputable surgeon, but I'm still very skeptical. Claims about the procedure: is done in 30 mins in select patients who don't need a breast lift; works best with bigger areolas; no scars just small punctures; depending on the chosen technique last 3-5 years or 10-12 years. As with most patients I'm sure, my big concern is scars so this would be amazing, do you think it's possible? Are the claims realistic? Thank you in advance for answering.

As I read the claims of the procedure you describe, it appears the surgeon is making stab incisions around the areola and using a permanent suture to constrict a large areola to reduce diameter.  If I am interpreting that description correctly, then it would be a fairly limited change.  The areola can only be constricted so much before it becomes distorted.  No photos are posted, so that may be all the change you need.  But if you need a traditional lift, then threads would have  a limited effect and be short lasting as others have said.

Unfortunately, many of the cases I have observed do not have long lasting results. Distortion of the breast shape, uneven right and left breasts, recurrent ptosis, threads slipping or breaking, etc can occur. Also, some of the puncture sites are high up on the chest and visible if they scar thickly.Traditional breast lifts with or without implants offer more consistent, lasting results.Further consultation with a plastic surgeon is recommended to better discuss your options and expectations.

First they started using treads on neck and face. It proved to be very short duration and most patients were unsatisfied after few months. Doing breast lift with treads seems to be even more questionable. Seeing long term result or, if possible, talking to a patient(s) who had experience with this technique, would help you to make informed decision. Good luck.

I think I would be very skeptical of these claims.  There have been many attempts to use threads for lifting techniques in surgery but they have been plagued by failure of the threads after 6 months to a year, or sooner in some cases.  I would want to see some long term results that have been published before I would want to sign up for such a procedure.  Best of Luck on Your Journey.

It is unrealistic to believe that a small diameter thread can hold the weight of the breast, which maybe several pounds.  Unfortunately, you have not provided photographs.  People are drawn to these procedures because they want to avoid the ugly vertical scars of the traditional techniques.  An alternative to consider is The Bellesoma Method.  This will reshape your breast tissue creating upper pole fullness without implants, elevate them higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage.  Vertical scars are avoided, nipple sensation (in 95%) and the ability to breast feed are maintained.  At the same time or later, fat transfers can be performed if additional volume is desired.Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.

My preferred lift is a lollipop lift when a periareolar won't do (ie greater than 2cm lift required). The lollipop technique was created by a Canadian plastic surgeon named Elizabeth Hall-Findley and treats the breast as a three dimensional structure instead of two dimensions (anchor - lift). Most importantly it does not require the horizontal component scars that the anchor-lift requires and breasts appear much more natural, lifted, and less boxy. Lastly, the lift lasts longer because the lollipop doesn't rely on the skin to hold the breast up, its actually breast tissue thatsbeing brought together to support the breast and hence improves longevity.
If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

Thank you for your question  Although I don’t do this procedure and don’t work with threads (because they don’t last and frankly don’t really work), I doubt that threads will give a nice long lasting result.  Furthermore it is virtually impossible to comment on your case without seeing you in person or pictures  I would be very careful

The thread lifting is limited in how long it will last. With the dissolving threads, the lift could start failing as early as 3 months. With the permanent threads, the lift can hold longer. However, the excess skin is not removed so it will start to sag again.  If you have minimal sagging, I would recommend the minimally invasive, tiny incisions, of radiofrequency skin tightening like ThermiTight or Renuvion instead. The results last longer and skin is actually tightened.  If you only want to have smaller areolae, the threads might work for a while.

Threadlifting of the breast can improve the appearance of your breast immediately after however the results will not be long lasting. The breast tissue will eventually adjust to the tension from the sutures and will relax back down to their original position. For long-term permanent results, you will be better served with a mastopexy, or breast lift, procedure. Hope this helps!Johnson C. Lee, MD
