Should I do 4, 6 or 8 veneers? (Photo)

Question

Right now I have temps which I hate on 4 teeth, my other teeth are OK, my only concern is that if I do 4 only, these 4 will be sticking out and won't blend together with my other natural teeth which are healthy. I'm afraid to extend it to 6 cause doctors usually recommend for 8 or 10 teeth, and by changing from 4 to 8 it means adding veneers on critical teeth which I use for biting food(Canine tooth+molar teeth. 4 teeth removed back then for having braces)- I don't want it to ruin my life. help!

If you do not want anyone to know that you have veneers and want them to look natural I would recommend going with 8.  You can never go wrong with this option.  Good luck.

Hello there,I would recommend focusing on those four teeth at this time.  It appears that your two front teeth are different widths and your gum line is uneven.  Before your permanent veneers are cemented, be sure these issues have been addressed and the shade of your veneers blends with your natural teeth.  Always look at before and after photos when selecting your dentist. I would be concerned with your existing 4 veneers temporaries.You do have an asymmetrical gum line, and if you receive your new porcelain veneers without gum contouring, your teeth will look uneven in length ! If that is not a concern then proceed with your 4 veneers. At the present time you have uneven width and heights for your front teeth!The color you have chosen for your final color has a lot to do with the final outcome.Looking at your pictures you do show inflamed gums, that needs to be addressed usually prior to preparation of veneers, also your canines tip in compared to your back premolars, To get a perfect smile line you must wrap around veneers passed the canines, to where you expose teeth on the sides! For that I do need side view smile pictures.I do not recommend 6 veneers, usually !  For a perfect smile depending on your side pictures is minimum 8 veneers, but if you have a wide smile and want a fuller smile, i do recommend 10 veneers even 12 veneers.In your situation I would be concerned with the existing asymmetry of the width and length!

Hi:The main question for you to consider is how do you like the color of your remaining teeth next to the veneers.  If you are happy with the color, 4 is enough if you are not happy with the color and would like dramatically whiter teeth then you can do more to improve the color as well.  In terms of chewing with veneers, that should not present a problem.  Your veneered teeth should function normally in terms of biting and chewing.Best of luck!

Sounds like you are looking to keep the treatment minimal and natural.  I believe you can get a great result with just 4 veneers, however, I would be concerned with the health of the tissue which appears to be inflamed from your photo.  Also, if your smile reveals your gums, make sure the heights of the teeth at the gum line are equal.  Looking at your temps, the 2 front teeth appear to be different widths as well.  Make sure these issues are addressed and that the color generally blends with your other teeth before permanently cementing.

When your porcelain veneers are made by the laboratory the technician strives to make them look natural, that also means they should blend in with your untreated teeth.  I know it seems disconcerting but you shouldn't be overly concerned about the temporaries - they are made of acrylic and therefore have to be slightly thicker than the stronger porcelain veneers to withstand the rigors of chewing while you're waiting for the lab to complete your case.  If your dentist originally recommended 6 or even 8 veneers you should revisit that treatment plan with him/her to understand the rational for including them.  There are situations which require more than 4 teeth to be treated, especially when you are trying to correct pre-existing spaces (gaps) between your teeth. Porcelain veneers are very strong once bonded to your teeth and can function very well on canines and molars provided your bite (occlusion) is properly addressed by the dentist. It's best to speak with your dentist regarding your concerns and don't feel intimidated about asking questions to completely understand the process and treatment plan.  Best of luck!

When designing a smile, there are several aspects that must be factored in to make them look and feel natural.  If spaces are being closed, the teeth will naturally be wider as a result.  This MAY make them the correct size relative to the adjacent teeth, but may not.  It is usually due to these proportions (the "golden proportions", Fibonacci numbers, or phi matrix) that we suggest more teeth.  If you are NOT changing the color of your teeth, you can do 2, 4, or even 6 veneers, but only if all other factors are acceptable.  8-10 is the normal number, and an experienced cosmetic dentist can explain clearly why, and show photos.There should be no worries about treating more teeth, they are not weaker.  In fact, when done correctly porcelain veneers make the teeth stronger and more durable while giving you more control in the size, shape, color, and function.
