QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Is this normal after a temporary crown?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
A broken temporary is a reason to call your dentist.  Furthermore, if your tooth remains painful when chewing you should absolutely call your dentist to be evaluated.  It's noteworthy that if the additional anesthetic used during the procedure was necessary due to discomfort, this may be a sign that the tooth needs a root canal. Don't delay---call your dentist.

Should I extract molar that had decay just below the gum line rather than do root canal. Then post and crown. Is that correct?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Without seeing an x-ray it's nearly impossible to provide you with a credible answer.  Many factors affect the decision of which treatment modality would give the tooth the best opportunity for success or if it's best extracted. Please see if you can post a copy of the recent x-ray.  Thanks!!

Porcelain Veneers for Enamel Decay?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Porcelain veneers are an excellent option for correcting discolored teeth that are otherwise healthy.  It's important to note, however, once you have veneers it's often the case that you will always need them---meaning if one gets damaged or comes off you'll need to replace it.  It's something to consider since porcelain veneers are not inexpensive.

Are my teeth too big for crown lengthening? (photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Before committing to gum surgery I'd suggest you explore the option of using Botox to cosmetically drop your lip line.  Many dentists are well trained in this area and it's a much less invasive treatment for a gummy smile. Good luck!!

Pain in front tooth two weeks after permanent crown seated.

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
It's worth having the dentist re-evaluate your tooth at this point.  Although it may feel fine when your teeth are in the closed position the bite could still need adjusting.  The dentist will have you move and grind your teeth together to see if the bite is correct.  There are other reasons your tooth may still be sensitive and your dentist should be made aware that you're still uncomfortable.  It's uncommon, at this point, to have the "dull pain" you're describing.  Best to call your dentist.

Can wisdom teeth extraction negatively affect face?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
There's no research that supports that theory.  The length of the dental arch remains unchanged after wisdom tooth extraction.

Any suggestions on Dental crowns?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
It's often the case that in the process of preparing teeth for crowns all of the remaining existing filling material is completely drilled away in the process.  As the tooth is being reduced, the filling material is also reduced and it becomes fairly obvious to the dentist if there is recurrent decay around the filling. If you have concerns about this aspect of your treatment you should discuss this with your dentist.  Most dentists are happy to have patients interested and involvement in their own treatment.

Can the crown be adjusted? (photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Where the crown sits at the gumline cannot be adjusted.  It's possible that the slight bulkiness you see from the side view may be adjusted and then polished - however that must be done cautiously and preferably by the dentist who did the crown for you.  Only that dentist knows how much tooth reduction was done and therefore how thick the crown is in that area.  The length - and by that I mean the edge that sits nearest your lower lip -can definitely be adjusted.

Is my gum healing properly? Why are the stitches coming out before time! (photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Although the photo is not completely clear, if you are not in any pain it looks as though you are healing properly.  The suture knots may have come undone which, in itself, is not a problem.  However, its best to have the dentist remove the sutures now, as they will collect debris and could present a healing/infective problem for you. Give your dentist a call and have them see you to remove the sutures and check the site for healing.

Dental bridge pain bleeding after cleaning

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
It's unlikely that a rough cleaning would cause your symptoms. It sounds like you may have something lodged underneath the bridge.  You did say you floss daily - it might be helpful to sweep under the fake tooth of the bridge with superfloss which has a thicker, fuzzy segment to it.  This could help dislodge whatever might be there.  It would be advised to make an appointment to have your dentist take a look at what may be going on in that area. Best of luck!!
