Are these lumps swelling or misplaced filler? (Photos)

Question

I got Juvederm filler in my lips 48 hours ago.I am very modest with it, and don’t even use a whole syringe. The dr used the same amount as last time, but last time I had almost no swelling and just a tiny bruise and my lips looked great the same day. This time my lips have swelled quite a bit. Yesterday, they were super swollen and have bruised. Today is better but what I’m concerned with is my smile. The two lumps on either side of my top lip. Not sure if it’s swelling or if I need to go back?

The lumps you refer to are likely from swelling.  Swelling is commonly associated with Lip Augmentation, and can take up to 2 weeks to subside.  If you still have concerns after 2 weeks post injection, meet with your injector for an evaluation.  Hyaluronidase can be injected to dissolve and reverse the filler.  Best Wishes,

This can be typical after lip fillers and is most likely swelling. I would wait a full 2 weeks before judging the results. If it is after the two week wait, you can have the filler reversed with hyaluronidase.

Hi and thank you for your question! Most likely the lumps are just swelling which might last several days following the filler. You should wait for two weeks following the filler injection and if there are any lumps or asymmetry, then see your doctor for a follow up. Not only every patient is different, the way the same patient reacts to filler injection each time can be different and hence it is not uncommon to have more or less swelling compared to previous treatments. Thank you for your question!  A very common side effect with lip injections is swelling and bruising which may last for hours up to 2 weeks. During this recovery time, the lips may appear uneven. If this unevenness does not improve after one week, I would consult with your injecting physician to reevaluate the product placement

Thank you for sharing your case and photos.  I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t had a good experience.  While it’s too early to see the final results because of swelling from the procedure, you always have the option to have the product dissolved.  Make sure that your surgeon is aware of your condition or consider a second opinion with a board certified injector.  Good luck!
