Congratulations on your recent surgery. I let my patients start to gently increase their physical activity back to normal starting at 6 weeks. I recommend a slow and progressive increase of activity rather than jumping back into your former routine. It would be unusual but not impossible for you to get a seroma at this point. If you are very worried, you will be safest to start with nonimpact exercise first. Running and jumping are more traumatic and more likely to lead to a seroma. But by 10 weeks you should be well healed enough to do any of these activities. Good luck!
The further you are out from surgery, the less likely you will develop a seroma. This is more common in the early post-op when the drainage remains high.
If drains are used then seroma are usually seen within a week after removal. As time passes after surgery a seroma becomes less and less likely. It's unusual to develop a seroma 10 weeks after surgery unless you had drains that were removed at 8 or 9 weeks. If you are unsure then ask your surgeon.
Hello and thanks. This is probably a reasonable combined surgery to perform, but you will have to discuss with your plastic surgeon about whether you're a good candidate for adding the reverse tummy tuck to your breast augmentation. Best wishes, Dr. ALDO :)
Hello Kimber.Congratulations on your recent tummy tuck surgery. It sounds like it's going well. I personally recommend patients wear the binder at bedtime too. Your plastic surgeon might have a different protocol. I suggest you discuss your concerns at the next visit or pay them a phone call...
This is an important question. After surgery it is best not to lie flat for the first couple of weeks since this puts extra stretch on your incision. I usually recommend patients use a couple of regular pillows or a wedge behind their back and a pillow under their knees....
Hello and thank you for your question. It is normal to still be swollen at 6 weeks post-op. I would recommend that you maintain close follow-up with your surgeon to ensure that its just swelling and not a seroma. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. Harvard-trained plastic surgeon
A tummy tuck is considered a cosmetic procedure. However, you’ve mentioned that you have issues with skin folds. If you have a pannus (an apron of skin hanging below the waist) this can be covered by OHIP. The procedure is known as a panniculectomy.
You could be bleeding, or maybe initial bleeding is becoming a serohematoma and you might well require puncture to drain the collection.
