Would taking steroid affect Voluma results?

Question

I had an infection in one of my cheeks after having a cheek filler (voluma ) . The nurse prescribed it for me to treat the infection and also prescribed some antibiotics . Would steroid affects the result voluma ?

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  Though steroids will not impact your results negatively the greater concern is in the infection your described.  Steroids can potentially worsen infections especially if the Voluma has become colonized.  In these cases the best treatment would be to dissolve the Voluma and have antibiotics administered.  Should you see little improvement or have an episode of returned swelling definitely follow up with your injector quickly.  Best wishes.

Thank you for your question.  It's difficult to make exact recommendations without assessing you in-person.  Generally speaking, steroids should not affect the results or longevity of your Voluma treatment.  That said, if you have an infection in your cheek, it is possible that your Voluma itself has become colonized with bacteria.  If that is the case, the filler may need to be dissolved with hyaluronidase to fully treat the infection.  I would recommend following-up with a cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon with extensive experience in treating filler complications.  I hope you feel better soon!

Taking steroids such as prednisone will not affect the results of your Voluma injections.  If your infection has resolved, they may have prescribed the steroids to help reduce inflammation and swelling in the treated area.
