Breast feeding is an important time in the first 6 to 18 months in a baby's life. Regardless of whether you have liposuction with only local anesthesia or with general or IV sedation, the medications that are used for the mother are not safe for a breast-fed baby. Enjoy this special time in your life and delay an elective cosmetic procedure until after weaning your baby.
It does not make sense you would have a cosmetic procedure and then nurse. Finish nursing and let your body recover at least a few months, preferably 6-12 months, and then consider elective procedures. Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
It may be a good idea to complete nursing prior considering surgery. While nursing, your body is still under the influence of hormones. Also, anesthesia medications do affect breast feeding, if your surgeon elects to have your procedure done under general anesthesia.
